My first retirement adventure - a bicycle tour of the East Coast of the United States.
About me
By way of introduction - I am currently in my mid 50's and have recently been forced to retire from my occupation as a podiatrist due to herniated discs in my neck. I had a C5-C6 discectomy and fusion in 2012 which corrected my symptoms completely at the time and I was able to return to work in three weeks. Unfortunately I required a C6-C7 discectomy and fusion in 2016 and so far that has not reduced the pain or numbness extending into the fingers of my right hand.
I have been a recreational bicyclist for many years and often thought about doing some long distance bike touring. So, with the MRI of my neck showing the potential for more problems down the road I figured I better get going while I still can!!
